Whew time sure can fly! A lot has happened in the last year! One of our bigger changes is that we moved from the small town of Tulelake ca back to our hometown of grants pass Oregon last summer. . Moving a whole farm is .... Challenging to put it lightly. Moving them almost 200 miles making over a dozen trips is exhausting! As of this july We are finally at a place we will hopefully call home for many years. It is not compleatly set up for the pigs yet but its getting their. The boars each have their own pens that are a bit smaller then we like but are sturdy and can acomadate visiting sows. The sows, gilts and feeders are sharing a 1/2 acre pen right now but we are hoping to have the sows and gilts into a 2 acre pasture befor winter. I'm super excited about the pond that will be in the middle of their pasture! They are gonna love it!!
Over the last year we had to get rid of a few of our old sows that had not produced piglets in the past year. It was a very hard decision as I loved each one of them and had spent many hours getting to know them and giving belly rubs but... When you have a small farm and a fixed income you can't always keep everyone. Daisy, Delilah, tulip, smily, happy, are all still with us as well as some new faces. We have iris a Hampshire ex 4h pig gilt, fern a York sow, honeysuckle a York/ hamp gilt ( ferns baby from spring 2013) fennel a York sow. Lilly a berk/ York gilt ( from daisy and smilys spring 2013 litter) petunia a blue butt sow and the 3 B"s ( our reg berk gilt sisters) radish, dandelion and clover. I will try to update my pig page soon with pictures of all the girls. Hopefully I will be able to keep the blog updated as well!
